It is reported that some battalions of Americans are now in the first line trenches, and that American artillery is shelling the Germans. According to other advices, American Headquarters in France announce that the troops have been sent to a quiet sector on the French front, for a continuation of their training. They will form nucleus groups for the instruction of later contingents arriving from America. The troops are satisfactorily adapting themselves to the new conditions. * IN THE FIRING-LINE. The United Press correspondent at American Headquarters reports that the 'Sammies" are fighting alongside the Poilus. The greatest camaraderie exists, and the infantry restlessly await the murderers' advance. The Americans marched through the streets at nightfall. Some sing "i'ipperary in an undertone. The Americans display the greatest enthusiasm. The first shell base used by the American battery has been sent to President Wilson. GETTING EXPERIENCE. CONDITIONS IN DANGER ZONE. Aw-'raliait and X.Z. American troops are in the trenches for observation and training, and this cannot be regarded as the real beginning of American participation in the fighting.
