LIFE-SAVING.
I - CANTERBURY HEAD CENTRE. The Canterbury Head Centre of ! the Royal Life Saving Society met last evening, Mr W. H. Benson presiding. The chairman announced that Mr J. Wyn-Irwin had accepted the position of chief instructor. Miss Cowley was elected to the committee, vice Mr Banbury, resigned. The chairman stated that a grant of £6 8/7 had been received for the encouragement of life-saving in the primary and secondary schools, and the centre had to decide how it should be expended. It had been suggested that a trophy should be provided for competition among school girls. After some discussion the matter was referred to a sub-committee comprising the lady members of the executive. Mr A. Barrett was elected an honorary examiner of the society. The Executive reported in committee on recent events regarding the Sir John Hall Shield Competition. Its actions were approved and it was given power to act in all matters arising therefrom.
