SELECTIVE DRAFT SYSTEM IN AMERICA.
ADJUSTMENTS IN HEIGHT REQUIREMENTS. SLOW ORGANISATION DELAYS DRAFTING. Australian and N.Z. Cable Association. (Received July 12, 11 a.m.) WASHINGTON, July 11. The War Department has announced that it has changed the height requirement for recruits, thus making available thousands of additional drafted men. The minimum is now 5 feet 1 inch, and the maximum 6 feet 6 inches. The slow organisation of the Exemption Boards is delaying the drafting of the men. THREE HUNDRED SUBMARINE CHASERS. SOME READY FOR WORK IN FEW MONTHS. Australian and N.Z. Cable Association. (Received July 12, 11 a.m.) NEW YORK, July 11. The United Press correspondent at Washington states that the Navy Department has revealed that the United States is building 300 submarine chasers, each 110 feet long. The work is progressing rapidly, and some will be ready in the next few months.
