PRICE ON THE HEAD OF THEIR VICTIMS.

BRIBES OFFERED SUBMARINE COMMANDERS, STRIKING INCIDENT RELATED BY AMERICANS. Australian and N.Z. Cable Association. (Received July 12, 8.45 a.m.) PARIS, July 11. The survivors of the United States’ vessel Orleans, which was torpedoed, state that when the vessel sank the captain was drawn under the water, but was later picked up by a yacht. In the meantime the submarine circled round a boatload of survivors, and the officer asked: “Where is the captain?” The survivors replied that they believed he went down with the ship, whereupon the officer cursed in English, saying: “There’s a price of 24,000 marks on his head. We want him!”
