Mr and Mrs Cecil Oliver returned to Botherham this morning. Miss Hazlett (Dunedin) is spending ' the winter in Sydney with her sister, '* Mrs Donah! Mathieson. p Miss Gladys Knight (Racecourse!; Hill) motored into town yesterday. An interesting wedding was celebrated at St. John's Church, Latimer Square,j" yesterday afternoon, the Rev. Percy; Cocks officiating. The bridegroom was ; Mr Charles Percy (Gisborne), a returned Anzae, and the brido Miss (Nurse) Frances Parsons, daughter of Mr J. S. Parsons, of Christchureh. The bridegroom was accompanied by Private Syd. Cowaj, of Ashburton, who returned to , New Zealand by a recent transport, , and Miss Cowan (also of Ashburton) |. acted as bridesmaid. The bride m wore a pretty frock of embroidered ! voile, with wide belt of white satin. wreath of orange blossoms and long ! tulle veil. She carried a sheaf of arum | lilies. The bridesmaid wore a pretty frock ] of coral pink crystalline, male in pina-j fore stylo, and finished with a square! collar of Maltese lace. Tier hat was of I pale pink aeroplane, and her bouquet of I violets anl freezias. The bride's tra-| veiling ilress was of fine navy serge,! trimmed with fur, ami completed with: hat of mauve crepe de c nine, lined with velvet and trimmed with a large bum hj of violets, the crown being edged with fur. The Wellington school children made a fine response to the appeal that they should rai-e a fund for the relief of the little sufferers of the recent air raids in England. Yesterday a first instalment of £SOO was cabled. The mode of distribution suggested was through the Lord Mayor, but it was left to the discretion of the High Commissioner to settle. Mrs Constance Gillies, of Glenalvon. • Auckland, has offered, as a gift, her property at Rotorua, known as "Kawaka Point," for the use of returned soldiers. The property consists of seven acres; mostly garden, and a house of 15 j rooms, with fine billiards-room, married' couples' quarters, garage, etc. A launch that goes T>ver to Rotorua in nine min-| ntes (the house is on Lake Rotorua,; about three miles from the town) is ineluded in the offer. The concluding paragraph of Mrs Gillies 'e letter to the Prime Minister, in which the olier was; made, is rather truehing: —"We have no son to send to the war, and feel we j would like to make some persona! sacri- ■■ fice for the great cause, so hope you will be able to accept and make use of what we vre able to offer." The news of the death of Mrs Gow, wife of the Rev. W. J. Gow, of Napier, a sister of the Prime Minister, the Right' Hon. \V. F. Massey, was receive.! in Wellington on Tuesday. Mrs Gow had] undergone an operation, and passed away afterwards. Much sympathy will be felt for her relatives.
