INCREASE IN WAGES. A THREE YEARS' AGREEMENT. As the result of further conciliation proceedings which took place between the hotelkeepers and workers, an agreement was arrived at which provides for certain increases in wages in Wellington, says the 1 "Post." As fnv as the kitchen ) concerned, where four or five hands are employed, the wages of the chef I ' and second hand remain the same. ,The third hand receives an increase to £1 15/1 (5/- more than the old rate), and all other workers £1 12/ti (also an increase of 5/-). In kitchens in which four hands are employed, the third chef will receive £1 15/- as against £1 7/6 at present, and "all other workers" £1 12/(5, an increase of 5/-. When three hands are employed, the second chef will he paid £2 2/6 (increase 2/6), and the third £1 15/- (7/6 increase). All other workers in a kitchen in which three hands are employed will receive an increase of 5/-, bringing their wages to £1 12/6. In the case of kitchens in which two hands are employed, the chef's wages are increased from £2 10/- to £2 15/-, and the wages of the second chef from £1 10/- to £1 15/-. A kitchen hand attending to boilers receives £2, instead of £1 15/-. Other increases arc:—Diningroom: Waiters (excluding head waiter), £i 17/6 (increase 5/-); waitresses (other than head waitress), 21/- (an increase of 1/6 in the case of waitresses). Housemaids' wages have increased by 6/6, pantrymen's by 2/6 (now £1 12/6), pantrymaids by M- (now 24/-), barmen's by 5/- (now £2 10/-), night porters (when in charge of bar or locker) 5/- increase (now £1 15/-), other porters 5/- increase (now £1 12/6). The working conditions remain practically the same. All employees, however, will he allowed one week's holiday on full pay each year after the completion of 12 months' service. (The union's demand was for two weeks.) The agreement is to continue for a period of three years.
