EXTRAVAGANCE OF LADIES. CAUSED BY SHORT SKIRT. Pree* Association. AUCKLAND, April 13. The Military Service Board, at the request of the Defence Department, granted a rehearing of the appeal of George Thomas Rogers, boot importer, employed by Adam Moore. Lid., who was granted an extension of lime to show that the boot trade could release more men of the First Division for active service. Major Conlon said il was evident i thul one big firm could handle all the | military boot work in New Zealand. | Fie was going to suggest, on instructions received, that there were! eligible men doing private work for employers who could \evy well be spiired. A lot of high priced and unnecessary boots were being manufactured For women at a disadvantage to the military authorities. j Never before had (here been such I extravagance, specially in women's footwear, owing to shortness of I skirts, ft should be known that I boots for this purpose were being | made costing £3 10/- and more. i Evidence, was given by a leading , boot manufacturer that no boot (iperators belonging to the First! ■ Division were indispensable, as olh-! lei's could easil\ be taught to till theirj places, lie had previously employed the man whose case was under re-'I : view, bul found no difficulty in I teaching an apprentice, who was do-!] ling the work satisfactorily. |i The board said il regretted its previous decision, but did not reverse it, I as the extension of lime granted to.j I the appellant would expire this It month. j-
