In order to combat the Political Labour League's assertions that the return of a Nationalist Government will mean the imposition of conscription, 69 Nationalist candidates have issued a manifesto declaring that they will give no support to any endeavour to again raise the conscription issue. SHIPPERS WARNED. MELBOURNE, March 10. In the House of Representatives, Mr Joseph Cook (Minister of the Navy) said he had received advice from the Admiralty that although the risk of danger from a raider on the Australian coastal routes may not be great, the Admiralty considers that ship-owners and cargo owners should act with prudence in the matter of insurance. FREEDOM OF SPEECH. (Received March 10, 10.5 a.m.) MELBOURNE, March 10. In reply to a question regarding freedom of speech, Mr Joseph Cook said that as far as he knew the censorship of all political matters in the elections would be lifted. HOP SUPPLIES. (Received March 10, 10.5 a.m.) MELBOURNE, March 10. The Federal Government is forming a hop pool, to regulate supplies, to decide what importations shall be allowed, and to fix prices. HOME RULE FOR IRELAND. MELBOURNE, March 10. Senator Lynch has given notice of motion for the presentation of a petition to the King praying for a just measure of Home Rule for Ireland.
