NATIONAL COUNCIL OF WOMEN.
A movement, is taking shape throughout New Zealand to form a National Council of Women, and the Christ church Provisional Committee is to meet shortly and discuss constitutional matters in connection with it. The council aims at linking up women's organisations and societies throughout New Zealimd, as similar councils have done in other countries. One matter that will be discussed is the formation of what is known as a local council. In Croat Britain these local councils band to gether all women's societies in the centres where they operate, but in a sparsely-populated country such as this it is suggested that it might include, as members, women who do not belong to any particular.organisation, but who are concerned with the interests and welfare of women.
Such a National Council has an opportunity for valuable work. At present there are very many excellent women's societies, which, though working independently, naturally fail to achieve much that would be within their scope if welded into one coherent whole. Local councils, it may be mentioned, have already been formed •in Wellington and Cisbome.
