SWIMMING.
ASHBURTON HIGH SCHOOL From Our Own Correspondent. There was a large attendance of parents and friends at the annual swimming sports of the Ashburton High School yesterday. The weather was beautifully fine and some good races were witnessed. The Senior Championship resulted as follows:—R. Pearce winner, 9 points; T. Taylor, runner-up, 6 points. The 50yds Championship race was the most exciting of the afternoon, both swimmers being in excellent condition. Pearce winning by a touch.
The Junior Championship resulted:—S. Hodgson, winner, Opts; A. Stills, runner-up, spts; A. Gillies, third, 4pls. The variety items caused considerable amusement, the under-water swim being won by R. Pearce. In the blindfold race no one succeeded in finishing. The following are the results of the other races:^-

Hillicr) I, fifth form team 2, sixth form team 3. Time, 70sec. LADIES' SWIMMING AND LIFE SAVING CLUB. The exciting event of the year took place when the cluh championship was contested in the presence of a number of interested spectators. The winner holds for the ensuing twelve months the silver cup pre sented by Mis Boyle, Cluh President. The contest consisted of four events—loo yards swim, diving, life-saving, and object diving. Mrs Bambery and Miss Vine acted as judges. The result was that Miss Brandon secured tiie position of honour with 38 points out of 40. Miss N'icol came second with 30 points. The other competitors were Miss Montgomery, Miss Wilson, Miss Lloyd, and Miss Painter. The ladies put up a tine performance. Miss Brandon's display of object diving merited special mention. She collected and brought ui) '8 plates, a feat which she accomplished in 23 seconds. This is the third year in succession that Miss Brandon has held the trophy. An endurance test which took the form of a quarter-mile handicap was tried out later. Competitors swam thirteen lengths in clothes, and on the 11th they rescued a subject for the whole length of the bath. The result was: —Miss Wilson 1, Miss Montgomery 2, Miss A'Court 3. Miss Zoe Butler and Miss Nicol also started. Two variety events were also held, Miss Brandon and Miss Nicol being the winners.
