AUSTRALIAN SHIPPING.

VESSELS REQUISITIONED. By Oalle.—Prtst Ag&oeiation. — Copyright. LONDON, March 3. The Controller of Shipping (Sir | Joseph Maclay) has notified that he | is requisitioning all the vessels in the ; Australian trade. Blue Book rales will form the basis of remuneration, subject to the readjustment of various charges. The Government desires to interfere at present as little as possible with the existing trade arrangements with Home. The intention is that the owners shall run the vessels as for themselves, though actually for. the Government, who confidently! look to them to conduct the business as zealously and carefully as if in ; their own interests alone. The involved owners are asked to i appoint a small committee to exam-! ine the requirements of the trade in I relation to the tonnage available,! and to submit, for the Controller’s: approval, suggestions for the out- j

ward employment of individual vessels, and to pay special attention to ascertaining whether any of the tonnage in excess of the outward requirements is available for employment in other trades.
