SPORTS PROGRAMME. An excellent spoiis programme was provided in connection with the North New Brighton Surf Club's Gala on Saturday, results being as follow: — SURF EVENTS. The winning team correctly gauged the strength of the current in making the rescue, whilst the resuscitation 'work was exceptionally good. I Fire Brigade Demonstration One-man event: Fireman Maeplierson (Addington* 1, i Fireman Boyd (Addmgton) 2, Superintendent Sherwood (New Brighton) 3. [ A RECORD BROKEN. During the afternoon Mr H. Alpe, the well-known distance walker, lowered his own flve-mllc record. His time was 45min 2 4-osec, as agiiinst the previous time of 45min ii.l 2-ysec. LIFE-SAVING DISPLAY. An exhibition life-saving display with reels was given by teams from the New Brighton Surf and Life-saving Club, the Christchurch Indies' Club, the North Brighton Club, and the Girls' High School.
