THE WATERSIDERS.

CONCILIATION COUNCIL SITTING. UNIONS FAIL TO APPOINT ASSESSORS. . Press Association. AUCKLAND, February 19. The Conciliation Council is occupied with the claim tiled by the shipping companies against the New Zealand Watersiders' Union and Auckland Watersiders' Union, in respect lo the conditions of labour on the water front. The employers claim is practically identical with the expiring award. Claims for higher pay and safe working conditions having been made by watersiders. A conference was held but the parties failed to agree. The watersiders' unions did not appoint assessors and the commissioner appointed representatives of the workers to act in that capacity. The Conciliation Commissioner adjourned the dispute at the request of the union assessors to enable them to become fully conversant with their task.
