Cheese.—The market is rather unsettled on account of the action of the Government. Importers have been notified that the Government lias commandeered all New Zealand cheese on the Arawa, and it is anticipated that similar action will be taken with regard to shipments to arrive shortly. Hemp. The market is firm, IA\X unsettled, pending next arrivals from Manila. Prices continue to advance. Gowl fair New Zealand hemp £sl per ton, fair £52; Govern-ment-graded fair Manila £SB, course £55 10 -; i January-March shipment good fair NewZealand £53, fair £sl; Government-graded fair Manila £57, coarse £55. The output of hemp from Manila for the week ended hist Saturday was 18,000 bales. Wheat. —The market is firm, but unsettled, and quotations are nominal.
