RED CROSS.
MEETING OF EXECUTIVE. The Red Cross Executive met yester- j day, Mr A. E. G. Rhodes presiding. The financial statement showed that j the receipts for November had amounted to £8063 7/1, and the expenditure to! £14,221 17/11. Mr W. W. McKinney wrote, tender-1 ing his resignation from the committee.: The resignation was accepted with regret. The chairman referred to the large: amount which was being spent in in- j suring Red Cross goods, and moved that | the society should cease to insure. Mem- ! b'ers did not think the committee was. justified in running the risk, and the ; motion was lost. Regarding the purchase of motor ambulances by the centre, the chairman stated that the Red Cross Shop Committee would give £950. Timaru had promised £SOO, while some of the sub-cen-tres had written inquiring what their quotas would be. A vote of thanks was passed to the Shop Committee for its handsome offer. It was suggested that Mr T. M. Wilford, M.P., should be invited to Christchurch to give a lecture in aid of the fund. It was stated that entertain- j ments, particularly lectures, were not, ] as a rule, very successful in raising funds. It was decided to refer the mat-' ter to the Entertainment Committee to see whether it was possible to arrange for a guarantee of expenses. In view of the announced intention of the Belgian Fund Repartriation Com- , mittce to arrange for a Harvest Festival in April, it was decided to set up a subcommittee to confer with the Belgian I Committee on the matter. SUMMER. The monthly meeting of the Sumner Red Cross Committee lias held on Mon-1 day, the Mayor presiding. It was do-j cided to close the garment room from r December 12 to the iirst Tuesday in February. Ten shillings a month was! voted towards providing hospital com- : forts for wounded men returning and ; for those abroad. The secretary report- j ed that the concert organised by Missi Johnson had resulted in a profit of £6 ; 15/-. A vote of thanks was accorded j Miss Johuson for her assistance. The' sum of £.'! had also been received from j Sumner boys, as the result of Guyj Fawkes collections. Messrs Gibbs, Law- j son, and Hines were thanked for free. ' carriage of goods. The offer of Mrs Isaac Wilson of the use of her grounds for a garden party was accepted with' thanks. A meeting will be held in j January to complete arrangements. The balance at the bank was declared' to bo £3O 1/1. The following goods have j been sent to the Christchurch Depot:—o pairs socks, 1 pair bed socks, 2 bed jac-1
