SHELL HITS CONSTANTINE'S PALACE.
GREEKS DETERMINED TO CAUSE TROUBLE PRACTICALLY AT WAR WITH ALLIES. Australian anil N.Z. Cable Association. (Received December 5, 11.30 a.m.) LONDON, December 4. The "Daily Chronicle's'' Athens correspondent reports that the advancing Allies found the Greeks in strong positions on the Observatory Hill, near the Acropolis. The Greeks, who were in superior force, charged from the hill. It is estimated that they took 40 to 100 prisoners. The Allied Fleet, lying at Kerastini. fired 30 shells, of which four fell in the neighbourhood of the Palace, one damaging the kitchens. Part of the shell, still hot, was shown to the King Avhile he was conferring with the Entente Ministers. An armistice followed, giving relief to the terrorised people. The population gathered in the streets of Pira-us on Sunday to witness the funeral of 54 British and French marines killed on Friday. Entente representatives attended. Reports are being spread in Athens that Castoria and Monastir have been taken by the Greeks, with a view to encouraging a warlike spirit. Diplomacy is making little progress, and it may almost be said that a state of war exists. The Allied Ministers are conferring with Admiral du Fournet. Greek patrols are still in the Piraeus streets. Large numbers of people are fleeing from Athens. It is rumoured that the next Greek move will he an advance on Piranis.
