CANTERBURY SWEET PEA AND CARNATION SOCIETY.
A general meeting of the committee of the above was held on Wednesday evening last, with a full attendance of members, the president (Mr W. J. Jenkin) in the chair, when the details for the Patriotic Show, to be held on January 3, in Market Square, were completed. One of the main features of the show this year will be the introduction of a cottage garden competition, when any person having no more than a quarter of an acre, and who does not employ any professional assistance whatsoever, will be entitled to compete. One of the conditions is that the fence must not be more than 4ft high, and the garden plainly visible from the street. A>tyone wishing to compete, can procure a schedule from the florists, ironmongers, any member of the committee, or from the oflice of the secretary, Mr W. A. S. Fenner. Large entries are anticipated, and the proceeds will bo devoted to the Patriotic Fund. The medal, which was presented last year by Messrs Dobbie and Co., was received and presented to the winner, Mr W. Swanston.
