■ From Our Own Correspondent A concert party from Redcliffs gave a very enjoyable concert in the Town Hall, Sumner, on Saturday, in aid of the funds for the sweet stall at the Domain Fete, which is being! conducted by the members of the local Women's National Reserve.! There was a large and enthusiastic audience. Ihe iirst part ot the programme consisted of musical items by Misses Priestly and Barr, and Messrs Adley, Gibb, Peek, Shaw, Woods, and Claudesley. Ihe. remainder of the programme was a nigger minstrel entertainment, in winch the following took part:— Misses Pender, Simpson (2), Barr, Beaven, Marquet, and Smitn, and Messrs Shaw, Gibb, Simpson, Beaven, Marquet, Woods, Clayton, Hamilton (2), and llarley. The accompanists were Mesuames Beaven, Lee, and Dobbin. At the conclusion of tne concert the Mayor congratulated the performers on their successful entertainment, it is expected that the proceeds will reach £lO. The Sumner Brass Band will play the following programme at Redcliffs this evening, commencing at 7.45: — March, "Australia" (Lithgow); Fantasia, "Alexandra" (Dacre); Flower Gavotte, "Hearts and Flowers" (Tobani); March Past, "Kitchener's Army" (Bulch); March, "Canberra" (Lithgow); Fantasia, "Norma" (Bellini); Waltz, "hairy Love" (Rimmer); March, "Marching to the Front" (Ord Hume). The monthly meeting of the Sumner Burgesses' Association was' held on Saturday, Mr H. Buttle, sen., presiding. Referring to the proposal to purchase the present municipal offices, ihe chairman moved the following motion, which was seconded by Mr Benjamin, and carried:—"That the members of the Burgesses' Association desire to congratulate the Borough Council upon the offer made to them by the trustees of the late Mrs White's estate of the property at! the corner of Wakefield Avenue and | Nayland Street, and upon the terms; offered for the sam«i, and pledge! I themselves to do their best to secure; the carrying of the proposed loan for the purchase of the property." Mr H. Roberts stated that the pre-| sent office accommodation was quitej inadequate and a resolution urging! the council to include in a loan proposal such a sum of money as would cover ihe cost of necessary alterations was carried. The present fire fighting appliances were discussed at length, and it was decided that tiie council shall be asked to take a poll to obtain a loan for the purpose of procuring a belter fire station and an up-to-date motor. Mr Lumsden drew attention to the fact that the 10 per cent, penalty would he imposed on j unpaid rates after December 19. Itj was - explained that the council was! quite in order in giving this notilica-j tion. The president was authorised! to wait on the council and inquire! : whether (he association could render! j assistance in connection with the] proposed loans. The dust nuisance between Woolston and Heathcole ! bridge was mentioned, when it was stated that this was probably due to ! the breakdown of one of the board's! I large sprinklers.
