Runciman, President of the Board of Trade, conferred with the leading hotel-keepers upon the subject of economising food, and subsequently with the manufacturing confectioners upon the question of the consumption of sugar. Mr Runciman gave an impressive address to the hotel-keepers, and urged the necessity for greater economy. He said there must be one or two meatless days per week, asi Britain must decrease the amount of imported foods. If the hotel-keepers did not act, the Government would intervene. It has been arranged that members of the Cabinet shall address public meetings in different parts of the country upon the war and the need for individual concentration.
