S.P.C.A.
The ordinary monthlv meeting of the S.P.C.A. was held last "night, Mr J. W. Watson presiding. It was decided to write to Captain A. A. Johnston, congratulating him on offering his services to the country. A letter was received from Mr O. Magnus, stating that there was a shocking state of affairs on Euderby Island, where cattle were dying of starvation. Some of the animals swnni to Rose Island, a quarter ef a mile distant, in their desperation. It was decided to send a letter to the Otago branch of the society, agreeing to support it in any step* which it might tak? to remedy the evils complained of. The Animals' Home report showed a debit balance of £4 8/-. A committee was appointed to consider the question of competitive essays by the public school children on subjects relating to the society's work. The committee is to report at a later meeting. The treasurer's report was read and approved. Accounts amounting to £t> 3/6 were passed for payment.
