BOWLING.
RAKAIA. The Rakaia Bowling Club opened lis green for the season on Saturday afternoon in glorious weather. Mrs 3. Penny threw up the "kitty," and Mrs T. Blackley rolled the first bowl, and the green was officially declared open. There were three carloads of visitors from Melhven and one car from Ashburton. At the conclusion of the games Mr R. Galbrnith, president <>f the Ashburton Club, thanked the Rakaia bowlers for the. good time the visitors had had. He congratulated Rakaia on the fine condition of the green. He had not played on so keen a ground since Methven gave Ashburton players such a beating at Methven a year ago. He hoped the Rakaia players would soon return the visit. Mr J. Stewart, president of the Methven Club, expressed the thanks of the Methven players, but said he had a bone to pick with Rakaia. Methven had an opening day a short time ago, and no visitors came from Rakaia. However, he was sure that would be soon rectified, and he extended to Rakaia a hearty invitation to visit their green. Mr .1. Penny said he had received apologies for absences which were quite unavoidable from the Lecston and Dunsaudel Clubs. He promised the visitor* to send good stilf teams to give them a light on their own grounds. The following arc the results of the
