CHARGES OF TREATING
CAFE DE PARIS HOTEL CASES. BEFORE THE MAGISTRATE'S COURT. As a sequel to a recent charge of manslaughter against Hugh Charles Grahame, when allegations were made that there had been "treating" in contravention to the War Regulations at the Cafe de Paris Hotel, a number of charges were heard at the Magistrate's Court to-day, before Mr T. A. B. Bailey, S.M. The charges were against Hugh Charles Grahame for "treating," Dora Mullins, a bar attendant for "treating," and also for "permitting treating," and Arthur Rose, licensee of the Cafe de Paris Hotel, for permitting treating. Mr Cassidy appeared for the defendants. Sub-Inspector Mullaney conducted the case for the prosecution. Roland George Collins, a salesman, said that on the evening of September 27 he visited the Cafe de Paris Hotel ill company with a man named Finlay, now deceased. They arrived there about 8.30 p.m. and called for drinks, Unlay having a whisky and witness a brandy. The drinks were paid for by Finlay, but witness could not say who the bar attendant who served them was. They then .joined Hugh Charles Grahame, who ordered drinks. Finlay bad a whisky and witness a brandy. He could not say what Grahame had—il looked like sherry. He could not again say who was the attendant. The parties again had the same kind of drinks, again paid for by Grahame, and served by Miss Mullins. A quarrel then ensued and the parlies left. Finlay and witness subsequently returned and drinks wore placed before them by Miss i Mullins. I'inlay had a whisky and witness a stout. I (Proceeding.)
