HUNGARIAN LEADER TALKS OF PEACE.
FOUNDATIONS OF SETTLEMENT BEING LAID. PSYCHOLOGICAL MOMENT NOT YET ARRIVED. Australian and N.Z. Cable Association. - (Received November 15, 9.10 a.m.) BUDAPEST, November 14. Count Apponyi (leader of an Opposition group in the Hungarian Diet), in an interview with a Berlin Press correspondent, said:—"Wc arc getting near to peace. I am sure it is on the way. Ido not mean that it will come next week, or next month, but the foundations arc being laid. "Viscount Grey and Herr von Bethmann-llollweg's speeches show that the two chief belligerents are getting closer, although they are still wide apart. They are approaching common ground —and why not? This common ground is the desiresof all nations to have an international agreement which will ensure the world's peace, in the future. If such a guarantee can be arranged, I do not think that this horrible bloodshed shall have been in vain." The correspondent asked: '' Does England want peace I '' Count Apponyi: "There are peace parties in all countries, but I admit that there is a strong war party in England and France." The Correspondent: "Can President Wilson do something now to bring the belligerents together?" Count Apppnyi: "America, as the greatest neutral country, must play an important part in an international peace, but I do not think the psychological moment has arrived. Rumania must first be punished for her treason." ,
