Hughes, the Republican candidate, has been elected to the Presidency of the United States. EARLY INDICATIONS. HUGHES KEEPS AHEAD. (Received November 8, 2.-10 p.m.V NEW YORK, November 7. The indications of the early polls were that Mr Hughes was leading, but the figures were remarkably even. President Wilson cast his vote at the fire engine house at Princetown, New Jersey, the premises having been temporarily fitted up as a polling station. Mr Hughes voted at a small laundry on Eighth Avenue, New York. One million and a half women voters added to the uncertainty of results. The States of New York, Indiana and Ohio were looked upon to torn Ihe result one wav or the Other. Betting was even. Early returns from Massachusets and Kansas, normally strong Republican States, showed that Hughes was slightly leading, with reduced Republican majorities. 'a
