T\s<> youlhs, Basil Henry Fleming and Cyrus Charles Mutton, appeared for sentence for breaking, entering, and theft at Palmcrston North. Ilullon, who had broken his probation, was sentenced to 18 months' re forma live treatment. Fleming was ordered lo come up for sentence when called on. Isaac George Fonscca, an elderly man, was sentenced to three years' reformative treatment for indecent assault on a little girl. Thomas Pollock, for theft of a bottle of whisky from a steamer, was admiled lo probation for 18 months. Thomas Hidout was convicted of snatching bags containing money from ladies walking on Mount Victoria. Sentence was deferred. Joseph Mooncy was convicted of the theft of £25. The money was lost by a messenger and picked up by accused, who made no response to an advertisement announcing the loss. Sentence was deferred. Frederick George Smith, convicted of theft of jewellery, was sentenced to two years' imprisonment. William Murphy and John Dalton, found guilty of robbery with violence, were sentenced to three years' hard labour, the Judge remarking that the prisoners Had only been a month out of gaol and had abused their chances under the reformative treatment system. In the earlier days of New Zealand's history they would have got seven years.
