FALLEN AND WOUNDED. PRIVATE .'. UEADHEAI). Private John Readhead (killed in action) was curator of Iho Ashburlon Domain, and obtained leave of absence from that situation in order o enlist in the 3rd Field Ambulance, attached to the 3rd and Ith Bat-
talions of the New Zealand Rifle Brigade. He was born in Victoria, and was 41 years old. He was a personal friend of Mr James Young, who was then in the Victorian Forestry Department, and after Mr Young was appointed curator of the Ashburton Domain lie came to New Zealand about 11 years ago to act as Mr Young's first assistant. He succeeded Mr Young when the latter was appointed curator of the Christchurch Domain. Private Readhead was very well qualified for the position, and was greatly esteemed for Ills work as curator of the Ashburton Domain. He was an enthusiastic member of the Ashburton branch of the St. John Ambulance Association, and was also one of the founders of the Church of Christ in Ashburton. He was prominent in Bible class work and was leader of the choir. Private Readhead leaves a widow and an adopted daughter, six years of age. A vote of sympathy with Mrs Readhead was passed at yesterday's meeting of the Christchurch Domains Board.
SAPPER S. C. KENNEDY. Sapper S. C. Kennedy (died of wounds) was the only son of Mr
and Mrs S, Kennedy, of Argyle Si reel, Sydenham. He was born at West Oxford, and was educated chiefly at the Sydenham School and the Christchurch Technical College. Until he enlisted in the Engineers of the oth Reinforcement he was employed by Andersons, Ltd. He saw service at Gallipoli before he went to Fiance. Sapper Kennedy was captain of (he Sydenham Rugby Football Club's team which won the fourth grade championship in 1010. He played half-back for the club's first grade team in 1914.
