SWEET PEA SOCIETY.
ANNUAL MEETING. PATRIOTIC' SHOW IN JANUARY. The annual meeting of tlie Canterbury Sweet Pea and Carnation Society was held oh Thursday evening', Mr F. C. Raphael being in the chair. The annual report and balance-sheet, which, were adopted, showed that, a small credit balance was left over from last year's transactions. After dealing with the change that had been made in the society's direction, the report went on to say that the River Bank Carnival, which had been run under the society's auspices, had resulted in a (dear return of £1 I Mi 17/8 —a most satisfactory result. It was decided that 1 lie society hold :i Patriotic Show early in January, in Victoria Square, and that trophies and certificates be issued to prize-winners. A feature of the show will be a. cottagegarden competition, open to all owners of bona lide gardens. This competition, which is the first to be held in Canterbury, is likely to prose a big success,
as generous support in the way of entries has already been forthcoming. Particulars regarding this competition ;ind the show in general will bo advertised later. Office-bearers were elected as follow: Patroness, Mrs Joseph Palmer, sen.; president, Mr W. J. .lenkin; secretary, Mi W. \V. Fenuer; treasurer, Mr Pen Pratt.
