ROMANCE OF THE WAR.
DESERTED BABY PRINCE FOUND IN A DITCH. Prince Yladzis Gcdroie, aged two, son of Prince Cyril Gcdroie, an Austrian nobleman of semi-royal (mediatised) rank, was lost, and has been found again in most romantic circumstances, chronicles an English paper. Prince Cyril Gcdroie is an officer in the Austrian Army, and joined his regiment in August, PHI, leaving his wife and baby at his castle near Brody. During ihe first great Austrian retreat Ihe princess lied, and in Ihe general confusion her bab\ was left behind and lost. A Russian officer found Ihe infant in a ditch some miles from Brody, and sent it to Russia to be cared for. No one
knew Ihal the infant was a prince and heir to vast estates, but a Baroness Natalie Ostrolf adopted it. and took il to her home at Tillis, in the Caucasus. Recently the story of the foundling was published in a Russian illustrated paper, with a photograph of Ihe child. A Russian prisoner taken by Prince Gedroic's regiment happened to have in his pocket a copy of this particular issue, and by chance I'rince Gedroic was Ihe officer who examined this prisoner after his capture, (dancing casually over the paper taken from Ihe Russian's pocket. Ihe prince recognised his Itisl baby and heir. Diplomatic representation' through Sweden ensued, and Ihe little Prince Vladzis Gedroic is now on his way hack to Austria under the (arc of two nurses anil a special courier.
