The Defender sails for Wellington. Plcton, mid Hokltlkn <m Saturday. The Wakatu arrives from Kaikoura tomorrow, and sails on her return on Monday. The Karamu went on the slip at Wellington yesterday morning for overhaul. The Melbourne Steamship Company's steamer Perth, which arrived at Wellington on Wednesday from liusselton (West Australia), with timber, conies on to Lyttelto'n after discharge at the northern port. The vessel will put out about 500,000 ft of timber here. Captain McDonald is still in command, and has with him the following officers: Chief, Mr Woolcott; second, Mr McDonald; third. Mr Mclntvre; chief engineer, Mr Much; second. Mr Twiss: third Mr Burns. The Wellington olliee of Ihe F. and s. Line has been advised by cable that Hie liner Somerset, inward hound from Liverpool, has been delayed at Melbourne, and will not be ready to leave Sydney Until next Wednesday. _ She will arrive at ~nd about the 17th inst.. at Wellington about the 241h, and Lyttelton about the end of the month. The Kumara arrived from Oamam this morning, for Homeward loading. Kroni Lyttelton the vessel goes on to Wellington ■A good deal of excitement occurred at Bluff on Monday in connection with an attempt by Ihe Japanese steamer. Huya Main, to come up Ihe harbour without calling for a pilot (sa-ys the "Southland Times"). 'l'll,' vessel encountered a strung eld; tide, and got into trouble near tin: spit. The lug went out to her assistance, and tendered her to the nuler anchorage, where she remained all day. coming up to the porl at C p.m. 'lhe liuya Main was a Captured (irrnimi prize, having been secured by the Japanese at Kiao chilli. She is an old-fashioned passenger steamer, with bowsprit and other signs of age.
