Air J. W. Smith (Invereargill) is among the guests ;tt the United Service Hotel.

Professor T. 11. Kasteifield, of Victoria College, Wellington, left Christchurch for Wellington by last evening's ferrv steamer.

It is reported from Dunedin that it is Dr Cohjuhoun's intention to resign from the position of Professor of Medicine at the Otago University. Cable advice has been received from the High Commissioner in London that Mr A. F. Nicoll, the well-known New Zealand artist, has been wounded in Fiance. The ''Fabian News" records the death, in New York, of F. W. Franklaud, of New Zealand, who had been a member of the Fabian Society since 1892.

Messrs .1. A. Cross (Tiniaru), .7. N. Thompson (Amberley), J. Hurdley (Timaru), W. d. MeGrath (Auckland), A. S. Fowler (Sydney), and M. J. Sorenson (Auckland) are staying at Warners' Hotel.

Brigadier-General Sir Alfred Robin, Commandant of the New Zealand Forces, passed through Christchurch last evening, on his way to Wellington. Colonel R. A. Chaffoy 'met him at the. station and accompanied him to Lyttelton.

Visitors to Coker's Hotel include Messrs A. S. Patterson (Dunedin), 11. J. Wynne (Wellington), V. Wyles (Wellington), D. MaeLaren (Dunedin), 11. J. Hansen (Wellington), S. Clark (Timaru), A. Ward (Wellington), and W. D. Wilkin (Akaroa).

Dr W. Marshall has resigned from the position of tutor of medicine at the Otago University. At its meeting on Wednesday, the University Council thanked him for his nine years' service, and authorised the Medical Committee to fill the vacancy. News was received this morning of the death of Corporal Hector Rhind, the seventh son of the late Mr Alex. Rhind, of Lyttelton. lie left New Zealand with the 4th Reinforcement and saw service on Gallipoli where lie was wounded in the idlest. After being treated in hospital, he returned to the Peninsula where he remained until the evacuation. He was serving in France at the time of his death. The late Corporal Rhind was 19 years of age. A brother, Sergeant Ernest Rhind, went away with the 7th Reinforcement, while another brother, Private Cecil Rhind, left, with the 17th's. Sergeant Harold Rhind, who recently returned from the front with D.C.M. honours, is also his brother.
