SCHOOL COMMITTEES

PAPANUL The Papanui School Committee met on Monday evening, there being present: Messrs Hookham (chairman), Holmes, Barnes, Mackay, Pye, Patriek, Wither!ington, and Burborough. Mr Inns was appointed secretary. A circular was received from the Board of Education, istating that a letter had been received i from Dr Chcsson, District Health Officer, pointing out the importance of giving schools a thorough cleansing and also plenty of hair, so as to keep tho rooms sweet. The board further stated that it had under consideration the question of reducing the incidental allowances to school committees. The committee strongly resented the proposed reduction, as it would be unablo to meet its liabilities. The secretary was instructed to write to the board t» that effect. The board further wrote, .stating that arrangements would bo made for taking Standard 111. at the ' Bligli 's Road School after the matter jhas been placed before the board at its 'next meeting. The board also state 1 that the sum of £27 15/- had been paid into the bank to the committee's credit. The headmaster reported that during the month of September the number on the roll for the main school was 271, with an average attendance of 243. At the Bligh's Road School there were 147 on the roll and the average attendance j was 132. A letter was received from the Waimairi County Council, stating ithat it could not spend monev on tho by-road of Bligh's Road until it had | been dedicated to the council. A deputation from the committee, including fcfr Hawke, member of the County c*il, was appointed to interview the board in connection with the matter. Miss Burrener, mistress of Bligh's Road i School, in her report, mentioned that i she had collected in the school for Day" the sum of £3 10/-, also j that an entertainment was beinp; prei pared for the benefit of the Red Cro=s and Piano Funds. The Sixth Standard girls had forwarded to Mrs Orbell for the Red Cross 18 pairs socks, 2 balaclavas, 2 scarves, 1 pair bed socks, 1 face cloth, and 5 pairs mittens. Accounts to the amount of £ll 1/7 wero passed for payment.
