PERSONALS.

Mr J. Grimmond (Ross) arrived in Christchurch yesterday. Sir William Hall-Jones, M.L.C., passed through Christchurch yesterday, on his wav to Timaru.

The Hon. J. G. W. Aitken will be nominated by the Dunedin Presbytery is Moderator of the General Assembly.

Visitors to the Clarendon Hotel in|lule:—Messrs W. P. Parkinson (Kaiuna), J. Storry (Southbridgc), C. C. Latter (Waiau), and J. McDonald (Otautau). The Rev. E. K. Mules, at present vicar of Little River, will succeed the Rev. L. C. Brady, who is retiring from the cure of St. Andrews, South Canterbury, after 36 years' service.

The resignation is announced of the Rev. J. 11. McKenzie from the Nelson Presbyterian Church, of which he has been minister for 25 years. He intends to reside in Wellington. Mr W. E. Cook, who has been transferred from the Arthur's Pass School to the Woolston School, was last week met by the pupils at Arthur's Pass, aud presented with a travelling bag and a rug.

Advice has been received by Mr 11. E. Musgrave, of Mt. Pleasant, that his eldest son, Mr Christopher Musgrave, who has been studying at an aviation school in England, has been transferred to a scout squadron. Professor T. 11. Easterfield, of Victoria College, Wellington, arrived in Christchurch to-day to lecture this evening before the Canterbury Philosophical Institute. His subject will be "The Importance of Scientific. Research in Industry and Commerce." Advice was received by cable yesterday that Lieut. A. J. Breach, of Rangiora, 16th Reinforcement, is returning to New Zealand ill. He was reported to be suffering from appendicitis at Albany, but it is believed that ho was transhipped at another port for New Zealand.

Mr G. W. D. Mulgan, formerly a solicitor of Christchurch, has obtained permission from the Government to go to England on business in connection with the Overend Aluminium Soldering Processes Company, Ltd. Mr Mulgan had previously enlisted in Auckland, and will report for service in England. He left yesterday by the Niagara.
