ELECTIONS ABANDONED.
GOVERNMENT TRIES TO STOP FIGHTING. Australian and X.Z. Cable Association. LONDON, August 23. The Athens correspondent of the “Morning Post - ’ says that with the wholesale invasion of Greek Macedonia, all thought of holding the Greek elections has been abandoned. This is doubtless one of the effects intended by the Germans with the object of preventing the return of M. Venizelos to power. It is confirmed that the Greek garrison at Fort Theapetra refused to surrender, and fired on the Bulgarians. The entire (sth Division of the Greek Army at Seres also bloodily resisted the Bulgarians till the Government sent urgent orders directing the cessation of lighting and their retirement.
