PROBLEM IN GERMANY. HIGH PRICES RULING. Australian and X.Z. Calle Association. PARIS, August 16. The "Journal" gives details of the food troubles that are being experienced in Germany. An ordinary meal, consisting of Indian corn soup, a slice of salmon, spinach, guyere, and half a bottle of wine costs nine marks (about 7/6). Two slices of sausage and live grammes of butter cost two marks (1/8). At the people's soup kitchens 40 pfennige (sd) will buy only a litre of soup or meatless stew. EXTENSIVE GRAIN FRAUDS. MANY ARRESTS MADE. Australian and X.Z. Cable Association. ROTTERDAM, August 17. The "Berliner Tageblatt" slates that there have been nearly 10(1 arrests in Berlin and West Prussia in connection with extensive grain frauds. Large quantities sent to Berlin, and branded by a machine, were found to contain parts of potatoes, and were sold at 300 per cent. profit. An innkeepers wife among those arrested was possessed of 11)0,0(10 marks for the purpose of bribery.
