AGAINST HINDENBURG.
THREE LINES OF TRENCHES TAKEN. TERRIFIC RUSSIAN FIRE. Australian and X.Z. Cable Association. LONDON, July 22. The Pclrograd correspondent of the "Daily Chronicle" reports that there is excitement in Riga as tne result of the offensive against Marshal von Hindenburg. The noise of the Russian bombardment is deafening. Private telegrams state that the Russians have already taken three lines of German trenches, and that the first German prisoners have reached Biga. KUROPATKIN'S ACTIVITY. PETROGRAD, July 22. Interest is developing in the operations on General Kuropalkin's front. Westward of Kenuuern and Lake Babil the Germans are being continually irritated by carefullyplanned raids, but Ihc enemy is unable to bring up a single division of troops to support the threatened position. General Kuropatkln s artillery is also shelling and smashing up the enemy's front trenches. COLOSSAL LOSSES. FURTHER REVERSES IMMINENT. ROME, July 21. Furious attacks upon Marshal von Hindenburg's front have been in .progress for several days, and are causing colossal German losses. The fall of Brody and Sianislau is imminent. The Austrians have decided not to defend Lcmberg.
