At the wool sales an average selection of merinos and fine crossbreds were offered, and ruling prices were maintained. Prices for low crossbreds were irregular, but in the buyers' favour. There were some withdrawals from sale. Kaputoni topped the market, getting 34 Jd and making an average of :tljd. The stock markets are subdued owing to the uncertainty of the bank rate, but there is less depression, as the money conditions in New York are easier. Tallow.—Five hundred and forty-five casks of tallow were offered and sold. Quotations: Mutton, fine 50/-, medium 46/6; beef, fine 49/6, medium 46/-. WHEAT MARKET. . (Received July 20, 9.20 a.m.) LONDON, July 19. The wheat visible supply is 85,044,000 bushels. Chicago July options, 112 cents, 111} cents - September, 113J cents, 112| cents; December 1151 cents. HOME MEAT MARKETS. Messrs W. Weddel and Co., Ltd., London, reported for the week ended June 1, 1916, that there has been a good demand at Smithfield for all descriptions of frozen meat, and values still keep at a very high level. Lamb.—All descriptions of New Zealand lambs are selling at 9}d per lb, and Australian lambs realise the same figure. River Plate lambs, however, have taken a further rise, and are now quoted at 1/- to 1/0} per lb. Mutton.—The Government is still releasing very limited numbers, prices being unchanged from those last quoted—viz., Bjd per lb wethers and BJd per lb ewes. River Plate sheep are quoted at about lOd per lb. Reef, Frozen.—There is very little frozen beef on offer, the few quarters available realising 84d per lb forequarters and 9d to lOd per lb hindquarters. Chilled beef closes firm at nominally 9}d per lb fores and 11 id per lb hinds. CHRISTCHURCH STOCK EXCHANGE.
