INCREASED ALLOWANCE.
FOR SOLDIERS' CHILDREN. RESTRICTING MARRIED MEN ENLISTING. [From our own Parliamentary Reporter.] WELLINGTON, July 19. The intimation by the Hon. J. Allen in the House of Representatives this afternoon that the allowance to soldiers' children would be increased was received with enthusiastic applause. Cabinet, he said, had considered the question of increasing the allowance, and had decided that it should be increased from 3/6 (the present amount) to 5/- per week. Cabinet had also given instructions that married men with more than three children should not be enlisted

under the voluntary system, except for some special reason. A Member: When does the increase come into operation? Mr Allen: It will come into operation as from July 1, 1910. I hope there will be no demand to make it retrospective. It would be very diilicult, and there really seems to be no need for it.
