ACCLIMATISATION SOCIETY.

MONTHLY MEETING. The monthly meeting of the council of the North" Canterbury Acclimatisation Society was held last night, when Mr W. 11. Tisdall presided over a good attendance of members. The secretary of the South Canterbury Acclimatisation Society wrote forwarding_ the following resolutions -as carried at the recent conference of Canterbury Acclimatisation Societeis. The resolutions had been approved by the South Canterbury Society at its last meeting. That the Government be asked to legalise the taking of quirinat salmon under the same license and conditions as are now in force for the taking of trout. That an annual conference of the Canterbury societies be held at a date prior to the annual conference of the societies in Wellington. That the conference recommends that all licenses be taken out in the Acclimatisation Society's district in which the license holder resides.

The conference urged unanimous action in refusing licenses to any person convicted of a breach of the regulations.

Speaking to the report Mr E. Stead, one of the society's delegates, said that he believefl that the conference would have the effect of bringing about a better feeling among the Canterbury societies than had been the case in the past. He was glad to say that in future the Ashburton Club, would cease to be merely an Anglers' Club.

Mr Stead intimated that further recommendations had been carried as fol-low:—-"It shall be unlawful for any person to fish with more than two flies, or one fly and one minnow or one fly and one natural bait, or two natural baits affixed to any trace. No fly shall have more than one hook, and it shall not be lawful to use more than one lead or sinker, and such lead or sinker must be tied above all flies, minnow, or natural bait used. It shall be unlawful to use any wire, either plain or twisted, or gymp trace of a greater gauge than 21, standard wire gauge. It shall be unlawful to use any wire or "gymp trace of a greater length than 6ft." The report was adopted. Mr C. R. Clark wrote resigning his position as vice-president. It was decided to accept the resignation with regret. Mr M. H. Godby was elected to fill the vacancy. Mr E. Hardcastle was elected a member of the Executive Committee.

The financial report showed that the receipts since the previous meeting were £126 0/10, and the expenditure £96 4/4, leaving a credit balance of £29 16/6.

The Garden Committee reported that it was proposed that this year there should be 077,000 liberations. It was decided to make an additional 25,000 liberations in the Ashley. The report was adopted.
