THE TRAILER.

A DISTINCT INFLICTION. RICCARTON BOROUGH OBJECTS. Complaints have from time to time been received by the Uiccurton Borough Council regarding the tramway service in the borough. A sub-committee was appointed to investigate the question and at last evening's meeting of the Borough Council submitted its report. Overcrowding and the use of the obsolete trailer were the chief causes of complaint, slated the committee's report. As far as the eonduct of conductors and motormen were concerned, the tramway service was very satisfactory, but the attention of the Tramways Board should be directed to the antiquated trailers used on the Hiccarton line. The Hiccarton-Sockburn area account showed it to be a good paying line, which was an argument for the early removal of the noisy and objectionable trailer, in favour of modern cars. The report further considered that the trailer was especially inflicted on Hiccarton and very rarely used on other lines. A big improvement could be effected in connection with the shunting of cars and trailers in Cathedral Square. Mr G. T. Stokes said he would like to congratulate the committee on its report. Ricearton was certainly having the trailer forced upon it, and it was time to object to the infliction. On his motion the report was adopted, without further discussion.
