BELGIUM FUND.

MEETING OF EXECUTIVE. A meeting of the Belgium Relief Fund Executive was held yesterday afternoon, there being present:—Dr Levinge (chairman), and Messrs F. Robinson, G. 11. Mason, B. Seth Smith, L. C. Gardner, and C. W. Reid. The financial statement showed that the receipts for the six months ending June 30 were £9275 17/1, and the expenditure £75 2/11. The disbursements during the six months amounted to £9200 14/2. The total receipts to date were £116,432 3/5. The financial statement was adopted. The Children's Day, held on Friday, had been very successful. Mr H. C. Lane, secretary of the North Canterbury Education Board, had received £790. In addition to this sum, Timaru had collected £IOB 17/8, and the secretary had on hand at present £lsl 17/7, making a total of £lllO 15/3. Further sums have yet to come in from the North Canterbury schools. The chairman said that the result was very creditable to the children. Mr C. W. Reid moved that all money collected by the children should be forwarded to the North Canterbury Education Board to be added to the Canterbury total. This was carried. It was decided to ask the Minister of Internal Affairs to approach Cabinet with a view to having a subsidy added to all amounts from the Canterbury total. Regarding a recent message from the Duke of Norfolk, the chairman said that he considered that a fresh appeal should be made. He emphasised the need for regular periodical contributions in order that Canterbury might be able to claim the Government's subsidy. On the motion of Mr Seth Smith, it was decided that the chairman and Mr Reid should draw up an advertisement containing another appeal. In furtherance of this appeal, it was decided to communicate with certain business firms. SCHOOL CONTRIBUTIONS.
