Official publications are so monotonously pedantic in their precise phraseology and painstaking regard for accurate spelling that it comes as a pleasant relief, as a green oasis in a.desert, when one finds a mistake in an official proclamation. A New Zealand "Gazette Extraordinary" contains a proclamation by his Majesty the King, making certain additions to and amendments ic the list of articles to be treated as contraband of war. Twice in this proclamation is "phosphorus" misspelt "phosphorous."
