APPOINTMENT OF EXAMINERS. Prefix A«ftoci<ition. WELLINGTON,'January SI. The. Seriate of the University resumed its sittings to-day, the Chancellor (Sir Robert .Stout) presiding. Professor Chilton moved—"That a committee bo set up to consider ami report to the next meeting of the senate on the matters raised in a letter to the Chancellor from Mr G. M. Thomson, and that the committee consist of Mill. M. Thomson, Dr P. W. Hilgcndorf, Air Hogbcn, Mr Tibbs, and Professors Benham, Marshall, Hunter, Segar, Mae.mi Han Brown, Scott, and the mover.'' Mr Thomson's letter, said Professor Chilton, was a plea that the senate should see that greater attention should lie given to the study of science in the educational system of New Zealand. The motion was carried. On the motion of Mr Von Ilaast it was resolved that Miss Henry be recorded as having passed the intermediate examination for the degree of Bachelor of Music. Professor Chilton moved the adoption of the report of the special committee appointed to report on the question of compulsory subjects necessary for the. general pass degerc. Professor Marshall opposed the scheme very strongly, and moved that the present system of two degrees—the B.A. and .lie B.Sc—be retained. Professor Beuham seconded the amendment. J)r Cameron suggested that Professor Marshall should add to his amendment that in the degree students should be, required to take at least one science subject. Professor Marshall agreed to the addition. Professor Marshall's amendment was carried. Professor Segar moved that Latin be no longer compulsory for. the B.A. degree. Professor Hunter seconded the motion, which was carried with one or two dissentients. Professor Segar further moved—- ' That every candidate for the B.A. degree be required to taike two lan guages.'' Professor Macmillau Brown seconded the motion, which was lost by 11 votes to 8. Mr O. L. Carter and other scholars who enlisted for active service applied for the suspension of thoir scholarships. The request was granted. Mr Crombie was appointed assistant registrar. The committee recommended the appointment of the following examiners in law:—Contracts, Mr H. 11. Ostler, LL.B., Auckland; torts, Mr M. L>. Bamford, LL.D., Auckland; property (part I.), Mr C. C. Mutton, M.A., LL.B., Wanganui; property (part J I.), Mr P. Levi, i.M.A., Wellington; criminal law, the [Hon. J. A. Tolo, 8.A., LL.B., K.C., Auckland; evidence, Mr 11. F. Von Jlaast, M.A., LL.B., Wellington; procedure, Mr J. L. Stout, LL.B., Wellington; New Zealand law (.for barristers and solicitors admitted elsewhere), Mr C. J. Tunks, Auckland; Roman law, international law, and conflict of laws (LL.B. and LL.M.), Professor A. F. Murison, London; contracts and torts, negligence, etc. (LL.M.), Mr T. Baty, B.C.L. and LL.D., Temple; the law of companies (LL.M.), Mr F. Porter Fausset, ■ M.A., LL.B.; commerce ami mercantile law (stage I.), Mr H. P. Richmond, 8.A., LL.B., Auckland; mercantile law (stage ILL Mr John O.'Shea, M.A., LL.B., Wellington; lights and duties of trustees, etc., Mr A. H. Johnstone, 8.A., LL.B., New Plymouth; bankruptcy law, Mr T. Neave, 8.A., LL.B., Wellington; company law', Mr C. B. Morison, K.C., Wei lington; industries law, Mr C. J. Tunks, Auckland. The committee recommended that the following examiners in the following subjects be asked to coifor either personally or by correspondence aud revise each other's paper—(a) Property 1. and property IL, (b) evidence and procedure, (e) contracts, crimi.al law, and torts, (d) mercantile law, stages J. and 11. The recommendations were adopted.
