MUSEUMS AND PICTURE GALLERIES. AGITATION IN ENGLAND. (Received January 31, 9 a.m.) LONDON, January 30. The agitation is increasing against .lie closing of the museums and picture galleries. JAPAN'S AID. MEMENTO FROM NEW ZEALANDERS. (Received January 31, 10.10 a.m.) LONDON, January 30. The King has approved of a silver model Maori war canoe, which the New Zealand Expeditionary Force is presenting to the captain and officers of the Japanese armoured cruiser Ibuki. [Tin- Ibuki is an armoured cruiser of ll,'_'i'>o lons displacement, and with the exception of 11.M.5. New Zealand, is the largest and most powerful war vessel which has ever visited the Dominion ports. She was built ill 1007-00. and carries four 12-inch, eight 8-inch, and II 4.7-incli wins. In company with lI.M. armoured cruiser Minotaur, which came straight from the bombardment of Tsiug Tan, she slipped into Wellington harbour a few days before the New Zealand F.xpeditionary force sailed, and on that memorable October morning when the great fleet put to sea, headed the Jong double line into the straits alongside her British companion. It is recorded that when the message was received that the Maiden had appeared at the Cocos Islands, the Ibuki immediately raced down the lines at full speed in order to he "in at the death," but returned with great reluctance, under the orders of the Jiritish admiral in command of the fleet, who rigidly considered that H.M.A.S. Sydney was powerful enough to account for the German raider.]
