RECRUITING.

CALL TO SERVICE. MR MASSEY'S APPEAL. THE DUTY OF YOUNG MEN. . " t "~ Press Association. WELLINGTON, January 4. Mr Massey issued the following appeal this evening:— "The holiday season is now coming to an end, and I take the opportunity of impressing on the young men of the Dominion that approximately 300 recruits are wanted to go into camp at once. These are required for the 11th Reinforcement, and I trust the vacancies now existing will be filled in a very few days. "The Defence authorities are, however, naturally anxious that training shall proceed regularly and properly, and that every New Zealand soldier shall have had, before leaving his own country, sufficient training to fit him for the very important duties that later he will be called upon to undertake. Hence the urgency of the request that is being made. "Wounded and invalided men are now coming back to New Zealand in considerable numbers, men who have done their full duty on the battlefield, who deserve well of their fellow-citizens, and whose places must be filled. "I have no hesitation in saying that in the present crisis it is the duty i of every young man whose circumstances will allow of his leaving this country to join at the earliest pos- ; siblc moment with those, whether , in camp or field, who have already ; proved their patriotism and loyalty \ by responding to their country's ! call."
