A Gorman official message states: —Our troops attacked between La Bassce and Bethune on a wide front. The occupants of one enemy trench were buried by the explosion of a mine. Some of them we're shot, while the others fled. PARIS, January 3. Official.—The bombardment by tlie field artillery of tin: Dunes region was started on January 1. It blew up two ammunition depots. In the Argonne our batteries dispersed the Germans on the road from Avoncourt to Malaneourt. At llartmannsweilorkopff, following on a violent bombardment, we retired along a front of 200 metres, to the south of Kehfelsen. The enemy did not attempt an infantry attack. The High Commissioner reports:—■ LONDON. January 3 (4.30 p.m.). Tn Argonne, near Four-de-Paris, there has been efficient fire by the French on the trenches and cannon of one of the enemy works. The flying Germans leaving shelter wore taken by the quick fire of the French "seventy-fives.'' (Received January 4, 11.25 a.m.) BERLIN, January 3. A German special message states that the French artillery shelled Lutterbach, killing a girl and wounding a woman and children.
