FOR THE GARDENS.

BEQUEST OF ABOUT £SOO. Another bequest has been made to the Christchurch Botanical Gardens. An old resident of Christchurch has bequeathed a sum amounting to about £SOO. Full details of the gift, and the name of the donor, are not available for publication yet. There are certain conditions attached to the bequest. In all probability the gift will be used for the formation of a rock garden. With the late Mr C. A. C. Cuningham's bequest—which is subject to a life interest to the brother of the deceased—for the erection of winter gardens, and the latest bequest, the Christchurch Botanical Gardens will begin to approximate more nearly to the ideal public gardens. But other large gifts from public-spirited citizens will be needed before the best possible use can be made of the gardens.
