BIG BATTLE CRUISER READY.
LEADING JOURNAL PREDICTS ENORMOUS TAXATION.
" Times" and " Sydney Sun" Services. (Received December 27, 8 a.m.) LONDON, December 26. A correspondent of "The Times" states that he is reliably informed that the new Goniffin battle-cruiser Iliiidenburg is ready, and that she is the fastest vessel afloat. This ship and others are armed with 17-inch guns. The "Manchester Guardian" states: —Germany is not building Dreadnoughts, but is concentrating her efforts on submarines and merchantmen, and is seeking contracts for the construction of two new Brazilian cruisers. Discussing the Budget debate, the "Frankfurter Zeitung" savs that the enormous and increasing cost of the war will necessitate the most colossal taxation, no matter how high the war indemnity is to be.
