NOTES. The Westport Coal Co.'s Canopus is to be dry docked to-morrow to undergo her annual overhaul and survey," which will take several days to complete, as the vessel is always chipped and painted throughout during her overhaul.

The Canterbury Shipping Co.'s Petone was brought out of dock on Friday evening, after having been cleaned and painted. The vessel will sail to-morrow for Wellington and Wanganui. Captain W. W T . Hender, late of the Poherua, has taken command of the Rakanoa, having relieved Captain E. R. Smith. Mr W. Harrington, late second officer of the I,auderdalc, who joined the 2nd Brigade of the. Australian Infantry, is now in the Birmingham Hospital, suffering from enteric fever.

The New Zealand Shipping Co.'s liner Remuera is to leave Wellington on Friday next for London, via Monte Video and Ten erilfe. The Huddart-Parker steamer Ulimaroa arrived at Wellington to-day from Hobart and Sydney, with 180 passengers and 910 tons ol" cargo. The vessel will arrive here on Wednesday morning and sails in the evening for Sydney and Hobart, via Wellington. Captain Mcßeth, formerly master of the Mokoia, arrived at Bluff on Monday from Melbourne. Captain Mcßeth has retired from the Union Company's service on superannuation, and will reside in Duncdin. Captain 11. Bold, formerly master of the Kamo, who was wounded in the head at (iallipoli, lias now quite recovered, and has lately boon engaged in recruiting work in England. Mr James McFaddcn, a returned wounded soldier, has been appointed assistant keeper at the Brothers light in place of Air Rees, who has' enlisted.

The Canterbury Shipping-Co.'s Calm will probably be dry docked to-morrow for cleaning and painting. She is advertised to sail on January 6 for Napier and Gisborne (inner harbours) with general cargo. The Union Company's Mokoia, which has been acting as extra ferry steamer for some days, will sail to-night for Melbourne and Hobart, via Wellington.

The Shaw-Savill liner Corinthic arrived at Wellington yesterday from Auckland to discharge her cargo from London. The vessel is due at Lyttelton on Saturday next, and remains here until Wednesday, January 5, when she sails for Port Chalmers. She subsequently proceeds to Gisborne, where she is due on January 11, Auckland January 13, and Wellington January 17, sailing finally from the last-mentioned port on January 20 for London, via Monte Video and Tcncrifl"o_

The coastal steamer Opouri arrived at Lyttelton yesterday morning from Greymoutli with a full cargo of timber! The vessel will sail on Wednesday for Nydia Hay and Tarakohe, and is due back here about January 4. The Vacuum Oil Company's chartered steamer Huron Ogilvie left New York on December 24 for New Zealand ports. The vessel will call at Auckland as the lirst port, subsequently coming down the coast, and is due here about March 25.
