MAGISTRATE'S COURT.

TO-DAY'S CASES.

Mr 11. W. Bishop, S.M., presided over a sitting of the Magistrate's Court this morning. DKUNKENNESS.

Five male first offenders were each fined 5/- for being found drunk; and one was convicted and discharged. A male first offender appeared on two charges of being found drunk. He was fined 5/-, or in default 24 hours' imprisonment on each charge. Alexander Gimmell, charged with being drunk while in charge of a horse and cart in Colombo Street, was fined 20/-, or in default seven days' imprisonment. OBSCENE LANGUAGE. William Edlin pleaded guilty to a charge of being found drunk in St. Asaph Street, and to using obscene language in Manchester Street. On the charge of drunkenness he was convicted and discharged, and for using obscene language he was fined £3, or in default one month's imprisonment.

VAGRANCY.

Joseph Mcllroy pleaded guilty to being found drunk in Manchester Street, and not guilty to being a rogue and a vagabond, having been previously convicted as an idle and disorderly person. He was remanded till January 1. Ethel Cousins pleaded guilty to a charge of being a rogue and a vagabond, in that she was found by night on premises in Manchester Street. The Senior-Sergeant said that the accused was in a drunken condition when arrested. There was a further charge against the accused of using obscene language in Montreal Street on December <l2. The accused said that she did not have the slightest, recollection of the latter charge. • She said she intended to turn over a new leaf. Mr Bishop: Well, you see, this is your twenty-ninth conviction. It is no use you making an appeal to me, because I have given you so many chances. However, I shall give you one mo-re chance. You are convicted and discharged on each information. Next time I shall give you every day I can. ALLEGED ASSAULT. Alexander Smith (Mr Cassidy), charged with assaulting William George White, causing liim actual bodily harm, was remanded till January 4. ALLEGED THEFT. John Downie Stewart, charged with stealing, at Featherston, on November 4, a suit of clothes, valued at £5, the property of Charles A. Nixon, was remanded to appear at Featherston on December 30. Bail was allowed—self in £SO and one surety of £SO.
