SERVICE OF INTERCESSION.
THE ONLY ENDURING PEACE.
A large congregation attended the united service of intercession held at St. Paul's Church on Christmas morning. The Rev. J. Paterson conducted the service, assisted by the Rev. Dr Erwin, Major Newby, and the Revs. 11. Johnson, P. Knight, and H. E. Bellhouse.
Mr Bellhouse delivered an address on the significance of Christmas and the teachings of Christ us they affected the present war. He whose birth they celebrated was looked upon as the Prince of Peace. His final gift was the gift of peace. Never had it been more difficult to celebrate the festival of peace than it had been this year, but never in the world's history had the prayer ascended more earnestly, "Give us peace in our time, O Lord." There was a danger that they might regard peace as the greatest good, irrespective of conditions, but the preacher pointed out that without righteousness there could be no stable and enduring peace. During the service special hymns were sung and intercessory prayers offered.
